Academic Standing
To maintain satisfactory academic standing, the candidate must:
a. Maintain an overall 3.0 graduate GPA.
b. Meet all timelines established by the Graduate School and the Toxiciology Graduate Standards Committee (GSC).
c. Make documented progress on thesis and dissertation research and course work.
The student's academic standing is reviewed each semester. Candidates unable to meet any of these criteria may be subject to dismissal. "Pass" grades are not included in grade point calculations but may apply toward degree requirements. A student may retake up to six (6) semester credits of course work on approval of the GSC.
A graduate student who fails to maintain a minimum GPA will:
1. Be warned by the GSC or Director of Graduate Studies.
2. Be placed on probation if the GPA is less than 3.0 after the first semester.
3. Be automatically dropped from the graduate program during the first year if the deficiency exceeds 9 grade points, or at the end of the first year or thereafter if the deficiency exceeds 6 grade points. Reinstatement can be made on the basis of a petition approved by the GSC and the Graduate Dean.
A normal course load is 12-15 credit hours per semester.
The minimum credits required by The University to maintain active status is as follows:
- Students receiving financial aid must register for a minimum of 9 credits per semester.
- Students not receiving financial aid must register for a minimum of 4 credits per semester.
- Students must register for a minimum of 1 credit in their final term.
